Papertrey Ink MIM Challenge

Here's my entry for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday Challenge. We were to use an oven baked clay shape made from a die cut then stamped. It was a little difficult separating the wings from the body. This die has all three parts on one die, but not laid out as they would be used.
I just purchased this stamp and die set; "Love Lives Here Holiday". I love it. When I saw a tag crafted with this set, I knew it would be my next buy.
I like the rust color, evergreen and cream together. The rust color was Tim Holtz's Distressed Ink, "Rusty Hinge", the evergreen was also Distress Ink, "Forest Moss". I used some white seam binding rubbed with the rust Distress Ink so it would match the clay figure. I rubbed some Distress Ink, "Vintage Photo" on the clay parts and around the edges to dirty it up a bit. The label was cut on a Silhouette. Everything was applied to a 4¼" x 5½" chocolate brown card. This was fun, something I wouldn't have thought of doing. I'll probably use this technique again.

Papertrey Ink MIM Challenge

Make It Monday #80: Making Garland

Ashley's our Make-It-Monday Gal this week as she shares her tips for making any shape into a trendy garland to put on your projects. We love anything that makes dies and stamps more versatile, so this tip is right up our alley.

I got a late start on this weeks Make it Monday challenge. We needed to make a garland from dies and attach to a card. Having only a few dies which coordinate with stamps, I had to improvise.

I used the PTI "2008 Holiday Collections" wreath stamp and my Silhouette to cut the circles. I hand cut the small notched edges. I wanted the string of jute to stand out more so I colored it orange with a Coptic marker. I wanted to wreaths to look like Fall wreathes. I used a tiny hole punch to make the orange berries and then glued them on the wreaths. I also used the new "Autumn Hills" stamps for the sentiment. I think it turned out fine.

Papertrey Ink's August Blog Hop!!

I'm really excited about the Blog Hop tomorrow. This is my first blog, I started it last week just so I could participate the Blog Hop.

My card is 5½"x4" with a "Dark Chocolate" brown card base was embossed with Papertrey Ink's new Herringbone impression plate. PTI's Herringbone stamp in Distress Ink "Vintage Photo" was used on a 4½"x3" piece aqua paper. On another piece of aqua paper was cut 4½"x2½" and I used Martha Stewart's border punch on the edge. The punch has scalloped circles on the bottom, and since I wanted to keep everything with straight lines, I cut them off. The sentiment is PTI's "Remember". I had to cut the ribbon in half because it was too wide. I frayed the edges slightly for more texture. The aqua blue section was mounted on the brown base with dimensional foam squares.

I had some extra time today and decided to take the same idea and change it up a little.

I like the way this one turned out. I feel it meets more of the inspirations photos. The "Take Care" card is 5½"x4". The front panel is raised from the base card, it doesn't show in the photo. I used Versa mark watermark stamping pad with the Herringbone stamp to create the tone-on-tone.
Papertrey Ink Supplies; Herringbone stamp and Take Care stamp
Other supplies; Cuttlebug houndstooth embossing folder, Sizzix Valentine Flourishes, Tim Holtz Distress Collection paper, foam stickers. metal heart and fiber yarn.

Saturday 25th...
This morning had a some time and wanted to make a card that was not in my comfort zone...distressed. The above card is how it turned out. I normally like every in neat rows and symmetric. The PTI supplies were the Herringbone impression plate, Rosey Posey stamps. The sentiment is Verve Stamps. Everything else was supplies I had on hand. Thank you for taking the time to stop by!

Thank you for checking out my cards today...have fun hopping!

Just finished my card for Papertrey Ink's MIM. I used some scrap golden yellow tone on tone fabric and die cut a circle with large scalloped edge on the Silhouette. This was a hard card to complete for me. I started several different versions before finishing this one. From Papertrey Ink I used "Hawaiian Shores" ink, the sentiment stamp from "Framed Out #4" and the "Straight Lines" impression plate.

I added a white fabric covered button trimmed in silver, bakers twine, silk flower and made a silver oval tag for the sentiment.
I'm looking to forward to creating the next card for the Blog Hop...it will be my first one. YEA!!

PTI Make It Monday August 13th "Hand Stitching on Die-Cuts"

Hi, Last week Papertrey ink's MIM featured hand stitching on die-cuts. I liked the technique adding texture to the card. I thought I would be able to produce better results than I did...I have embroidered and crossed stitched before. Stitching on the paper was definitely more of a challenge. I crafted two cards for MIM.

The first card I started out thinking bark would look good stitched. First I used a chain stitch on the trunk of the tree, but that wasn't looking right, so I ripped out the stitches and use a back stitch. After I finished, the dark brown embroidery thread looks too dark, maybe the same color as my paper die cut trunk would have given it a tone on tone and been softer to the eye.
I also used the hexagon die and the happy hexagon stamps to create the tree leaves. I think they turned out well.

The second card I went looking for some Folk Art for inspiration. I love Folk Art. This is the piece I found.
I like the color combination of color opposites of the blue and orange with the tan. Also I just received an order from Papertrey Ink with an Orange Zest ink pad I was wanting to use! This is the card I made—

I used the Rosey Posey die and back stitched in blue around it, also added a few french knots to the smaller flower's centers. I used several different stamps, the tan top hexagon is from Rosey Posey, I covered part of the paper so only the top section would stamp. The little stars are from Nativity Silhouettes Addition, the flowers; Honey Bee, Women of Life, Remember, and Beyond Basic Borders. The embossed Happy Birthday is from Birthday Basics.
I'll be starting on this weeks MIM...using fabric on die cuts, this will be fun.

Papertrey INK MIM Watercolor Challenge

This was the challenge two weeks ago. The goal was to take the ink from the stamp pad and use it like watercolor. This was fun. I actually did three. After the first one, I knew it could be better. The projects did get better. I was happy with the one I finished at the end of the week.

The first one was too plain and had too much background of the Aqua Mist paper.

The second card I thought the layout worked fine, however there wasn't much watercolor technique in the hearts. I also entered this card in Verve Stamps Customer Card Carnival .

The third card I was very happy with. I had been reading in Debbie Olson's blog about hinged cards and thought I would try it to remake the first card.
I used the PTI Stitches & Swirls" and the large "Thanks" stamp, PTI inks; Aqua Mist, BlueberrySky and Enchanted Evening, and black was Memento Tuxedo Black. I stamped and water colored the image on card stock and used Tim Holtz's Paper Rosettes die to make the flower and Spellbindinders Grand Nestabilities Label 4 for the shape.

First Post

Well I've joined the blogging world. Not sure if there will be much to say. The last couple of months I have been trying to find my creativity, I seem to have lost it somewhere between having my children and taking care of the household. I'm a stay at home mom with three children, Zack is 25, TJ is 18 and our baby Mary is 15. I'm married to the love of my life and my rock, Tom.
The priorities of my life; first live a life that glorifies God, Love my husband, and Love my children. All in that order.
Back to looking for my missing creativity. I had it once, from the time I was in grade school, to graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from Pittsburgh Art Institute, then it sort diminished. There have sporadic sparks the last 30 years, mostly decorating our church's fellowship dinners and helping the kids with school projects. The kids are older and I have more time, so to get the creativity juices flowing again I have started to make cards. By checking out several blogs linked to scrapbooking and card making companies; Two Peas In A Bucket, Papertrey Ink and Splitcoaststampers I have seen lots of ideas and styles. I have entered three of Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday challenges so far. It feels good to think about something visual!
